Our purpose at Dr's. Price & Shepler, Family Eye Care is to provide the best possible eye care and the highest quality eyewear services to the patients who entrust their visual welfare to us.


We provide those services in a friendly and pleasant manner that makes our patients feel both valued as individuals and appreciated for the business they give us. We always try to exceed our patient's expectations.

Dr. Herb Price

Dr. Herb Price | Optometrist

Dr. Price graduated from Indiana University in 1968 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He received his Doctor of Optometry degree from Indiana University School of Optometry in 1971.

He then started his Family Eye Care practice in Logansport, Indiana. Dr. Price evaluates and treats all types of vision problems and eye health conditions. His special interest is in sports vision for athletes. He was on the National Sports Festival Olympic Vision Testing Team, Director of Vision Services for the Pan American Games. Dr. Price was honored with the Meritorious Service Award by the Indiana Optometric Association. 20/20 Magazine recognized Dr. Price as one of the top 30 Optometrist in the United States. In 2003, he was named Optometrist of the Year in Cass County.

Dr. Price is a member the Indiana Optometric Association and the American Optometric Association. He has lectured on the subject of Sports Vision and Optometric Practices Management throughout the United States.

Dr. Price is a member of the Logansport Rotary Club, Cass County Chamber of Commerce, Fulton County Chamber of Commerce and the IU Alumni Association. He is a Past President of the IU School of Optometry Alumni Association and a member of the Board of Directors of the Indiana Blind Children’s Foundation. He is a Past President of the Cass County Community Foundation. Dr. Price was recognized by the Chamber of Commerce in 2013 as the “Business Man of the Year”.

His wife, Patti, has been in the optical industry for over 30 years. They have a son, David, who owns Priceless Banners in Logansport and a daughter, Monica, who is an Optometrist with an office in Greenfield. They also have four grandchildren. Dr. Price’s hobbies are golf, boating, playing cards, IU athletics and Colts football.

Dr. Kathy Shepler

Dr. Kathy Shepler | Optometrist

Dr. Shepler graduated from Logansport High School in 1981. She received a Bachelor of Science degree with High Distinction in 1986 from Indiana University and Doctor of Optometry degree with High Honors in 1988 from the Indiana University School of Optometry.

Dr. Shepler completed a one year residency program at the West Side VA Hospital and Hines Blind Center in Chicago which provided advanced training in the diagnosis and management of eye diseases. Dr. Shepler joined Dr. Price’s practice in 1989. She was also an associate clinical instructor at the Indiana University Indianapolis Eye Clinic from 1989-1993 where she supervised the training of students.

Dr. Shepler is a member of the Indiana Optometric Association, American Optometric Association and Beta Sigma Kappa Honor Society.

Dr. Shepler is a member of the Cass County Chamber of Commerce, Fulton County Chamber of Commerce, Indiana University Alumni Association and former president of the Cass County United Way Board. She is a past chairperson of Logansport Memorial Hospital Board of Trustees and is an active member of All Saints Parish. She was recognized by the Chamber of Commerce as the 2008 “Business Woman of the Year”.

Her husband, Dave, is owner of Shepler Construction Company, Inc. They have three daughters, Allison, Christine and Natalie. Dr. Shepler enjoys reading, boating and spending time with family and friends.

Dr. Karisa Hall

Dr. Karisa Hall | Optometrist

Dr. Karisa Hall grew up on a farm in neighboring Miami County and graduated in 2005 from North Miami High School as valedictorian. She earned her undergraduate degree in biology from Huntington University in 2009, where she distinguished herself academically, graduating summa cum laude, earning biology excellence awards, and actively participating in the Alpha Chi Honor Society. She graduated from Indiana University School of Optometry with honors in 2013.

Dr. Hall’s training took her from Nebraska to Florida, gaining expertise on a spectrum of vision disorders affecting patients of all ages, from childhood amblyopia to management of glaucoma. She specializes in primary care optometry providing routine eye health exams. Other areas of expertise include specialty contact lens fits, including bifocal contact lenses and contacts for astigmatism, and treatment of ocular diseases such as diabetic retinopathy, dry eye, macular degeneration, and glaucoma.

Outside of optometry, she enjoys spending time with her husband, Ryan, and their son. She enjoys outdoor activities such as riding her bike on the local trails, gardening, and sand volleyball; she has even participated in four sprint triathlons. Dr. Karisa Hall is known for her excellence, thoroughness, and compassion, and she is enthusiastic about serving the eye care needs of you and your family.

Ellen

Dr. Brad Farlow| Optometrist

Dr. Farlow brings 39 years of experience in Family Eye Care.  He specializes in contact lenses and eye health issues.  Dr. Farlow enjoys meeting new patients and taking care of their eye health.  He graduated from Indiana University School of Optometry.  Dr. Farlow is a member of the Indiana Optometric Association and the American Optometric Association.  Dr. Farlow currently lives in Wabash with his wife of 34 years and he is the proud father of 3 adult children.

Ellen King | Office Director

Ellen grew up in the Fulton and Grass Creek communities. She now lives on the family farm near Fulton that she shared with her husband, Don. Their son and his family live in Columbus, Indiana. Following graduation from Caston High School, Ellen obtained a Medical Laboratory Technology degree. In spare time she enjoys quilting, sewing, antiques, coaching high school cheerleaders, and spending time with family.

As Office Director, Ellen works with the Drs. and staff in an administrative capacity. She enjoys the challenges of her business administration duties that include payroll, taxes, correspondence, and problem solving and staff coordination. Ellen joined Family Eye Care in 2012 and appreciates the “family” atmosphere.

 

Karen Hardy | Optician/Insurance Coordinator

Karen’s family moved from Wisconsin to Logansport when she was young. Karen and Mike live in Lake Cicott and have two married daughters and five grandchildren. Karen’s favorite thing to do is play with her grandchildren. She enjoys scrapbooking and reading.

She began her career in the eye care business in 1974. Karen has assisted the doctors in all areas of the optometric practice. She enjoys assisting patients with frame and lens selection and providing the latest technology in eyewear to compliment the patient’s life style. Karen has attended many seminars to further her education in both optical and insurance procedures.

Maria Evers | Receptionist

Maria was born and raised in Grant County, Indiana and graduated from Eastbrook High School. She moved to Fulton County 1999 after meeting and marrying her husband David. They have two grown, married daughters and five grandchildren. Free time is spent camping, enjoying their grandchildren their sports activities. Maria also loves to garden, travel to our National Parks, and bake.

Maria has worked in the healthcare field for over 45 years. Her duties include billing, payments, scheduling appointments, insurance verifications and assisting patients with questions. Helping patients with their medical needs and making sure they are treated in a kind and professional manner is always her top priority.

Michele Hubenthal | Optician

Michele lives near Logansport with her husband, Todd. They have 3 children. Following graduation from Rochester High School, Michelle worked in the office of a medical clinic in Rochester and also worked in the Special Education Department at Caston Elementary School. She enjoys gardening, walking, cooking, and spending time with her family.

Joining the “family” at Family Eye Care has been an incredibly enjoyable and satisfying experience. As an optician, Michele assists patients with their frame and lens choices, explains insurance benefits, and especially enjoys teaching new contact wearers how to wear and care for their lenses. Seeing the smile on their faces when they get that first set of lenses in for the first time makes her day!

Shannon Hudkins | Optician

Shannon and her husband, John, live in Rochester where they raised their three children. Before her move to Rochester, Shannon grew up in Logansport where she graduated from Logansport High School. She enjoys cooking and spending time with family and friends.

Her career in eye care began as an optician with us in 2014. She assists the doctors and our patients in many areas including frame and lens selection, insurance benefit information, and contact lens training. She serves as one of our frame buyers and enjoys meeting with the representatives to keep the most current products in the office.

Michele Hettinger | Optician

Michelle grew up in Winamac where she still lives with her husband Paul and dog Oakley.  They are parents to two sons and a daughter.  Michelle enjoys watching her daughter play softball, visiting her children, crocheting, dog walking and grooming, cooking, reading and watching TV.

Michelle came to Family Eye Care in 2019. Her duties as an optician are assisting patients with frame and lens selections, informing patients of their insurance benefits, fittings, adjustments and repairs.  She checks lenses on delivery to be sure they meet desired specifications and dispenses orders to patients.  Michelle enjoys meeting all patients that come in and loves being able to help them see well and know they look good in their new eyewear.

Carly Hall | Optician

Carly is a Logansport native and a graduate of Logansport High School.  She attended Ivy Tech to pursue a degree in health care and office administration.  Carly and her husband, Jennings are parents to a daughter and their pets.  She enjoys spending time with extended family and new experiences with her daughter.

Carly began her career as an Optician in 2018. Her duties include assisting patients with frame selection, contact lens training, explaining insurance benefits, and fittings and repairs. The thing Carly enjoys most about her job is the daily interactions with the patients.

Sara Handschu | Optician

Sara grew up in Logansport where she graduated from Logansport High School.  She is a proud mom of two, and a future stepmom of an additional two.  Sara enjoys spending time with family and cooking for them.

Sara has been working at Family Eye Care since the fall of 2020.  She is a receptionist and performs some testing as well.  She plans to learn the Optician duties and serve our practice in a dual role.

Donna Downham | Optician

Born in Logansport and another graduate of Logansport High School, Donna moved to Carroll County after marrying her husband, Doug.  They are parents of a daughter and have a granddaughter as well.  They are pet parents to a dog and cat.  Spare time is spent reading, gardening and spending time with her granddaughter.

Donna has been in eye care since 2019. A lifelong learner, she is enjoying the challenges and learning opportunities of advancing her skills with our practice.
